On the Passing of My Mother

February 27, 2014 by Chuck Beckler

Psalm 33 begins with an explosive command or exhortation to"Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous!" I can't help but respond to that with a heart full of thanks, praise and love for the mysteries of our Father and His family. His compassion through all of you has been incredible, comforting and a shot of strength to press on in the midst of a wild and curious time. Of course, all under the watchful eye of a merciful Godhead. Thank you all your prayers, presence, words, hugs, food and food and food and more yummy food than we could ever eat.

Who would ever think God would give the privilege to celebrate the homegoing of my mom on my birthday? What a blessing and what a gift to have so many friends celebrate God's work in her life and praise Him for the hope we have together as His children. So with the psalmist I shout for joy for Him and His righteous family. We sang, wept, laughed and loved each other, thank all of you. We never thought while we were speaking at a high school weekend retreat in Michigan, God would have a three-week wild ride waiting for us. He gave us all we needed and enough time to arrive in Kansas, crawl up on my Mom's bed before she went. I am grateful I was able to tell her I loved her and she was able to share the same. Her journey here had ended and the real one began, looking on the face of her LORD. She would say, "Okay, now press on and get back to work. Tell the world about Jesus, teach the gospel and never quit."

So we will by His strength not ours and for His glory alone.
